A Greeting from the Presiding Minister

Greetings in the Lord Jesus Christ. I am glad you stopped by our website. My name is Virgil Hurt and I serve as the Presiding Minister of the CREC.

We hope you find what you are looking for, from the doctrines we believe to the location of our churches. If you would like more information, please feel free to contact any of the churches listed on this site, the various Presiding Ministers of Presbytery, or me .

While you can get a sense of what we believe by perusing this website, the best way to get to know us and experience our style of worship is to visit one of our churches. Our singing is robust. Our engagement in the liturgy is joyful. Our preaching is biblical. You will know you are in church and you will be glad. We hope you visit. Our pastors will be pleased to answer any questions that you may have about our worship style, doctrine or local church community.

The CREC began in 1998 and has steadily grown and expanded her gospel ministry throughout the world. There are now 95 member churches in ten countries and on four continents. Our stateside and foreign churches are active in planting new mission churches. It is our desire to be responsive and helpful to all who inquire about our communion and her related ministries. We have one church-affiliated liberal arts college, New St. Andrews.

The CREC is unique in many ways. One of those ways is our embrace of a broad spectrum of Reformed doctrine and practice. We understand that our congregants come from a variety of backgrounds and are at different places concerning their relation to the Reformed Faith. In fact, the CREC originally formed to gather churches that were in transition, mostly from independent Bible churches, into a more Reformed understanding of doctrine and practice.

Our gathering of churches is not intended as a separation from other orthodox believers who confess the name of Christ, but rather as a gathering within that broader church, that we might work together effectively in the proclamation of the gospel for the reformation of the church and the redemption of the world.

Our founding documents and confessions enable us to accommodate churches with various expressions of the Reformed Faith. We have Reformed Baptists (London Baptist Confession), Presbyterians (Westminster Confession of Faith), Continental Reformed (Three Forms of Unity, Second Helvetic Confession) and churches with an Anglican style (39 Articles). We are able to accommodate these different expressions of Reformed churches while also maintaining high doctrinal and moral standards. We are pleased to be among such a group of churches.

We hope you visit one of our churches. Be prepared to enter the presence of our Holy God, to rejoice with gratitude in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, to experience a great sense of relief for the forgiveness of sins through Jesus, to hear the Word of God boldly proclaimed, and to commune with God and His people at the Lord’s Table.

Grace and Peace,

Virgil Hurt
